Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Constructs/repairs/maintains tools/gauges/fixtures/jigs/dies of qualifications to enable production to meet scheduling requirements
  • Participates in the training of tool & die apprentices as required
  • Carry out the normal duties of a Toolmaker
  • Aid in implementing and maintaining systems to virtually eliminate run interruptions and in-press downtime due to tooling capability
  • Ensure that all machining at Canada Stampings Ltd. is performed in the most timely and efficient manner and is of the highest quality
  • Work to tool room schedule to accomplish die maintenance, rebuilding or other machining requirements
  • Assist Project Engineers where needed on tool builds or equipment launches
  • Abides by all plant health, safety and environmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Help ensure that the Toolroom Department & equipment are kept clean and properly maintained through 5S+1 Safety Program while ensuring all daily/weekly audits and inspections are complete.
  • Follows and adheres to requirements of current customer quality and environmental management systems standards
  • Identify areas of tooling fatigue or possible future problems and bring them to management’s attention
  • Advise management of improvement needed in tooling servicing methods and equipment
  • Suggest methods or practices to improve tool life, serviceability, or tool efficiency
  • Records information and maintains toolroom records either manually or on computer
  • Record all tooling service on ARDPRR sheets or other supplementary service records
  • Follow directions provided on tooling service instructions
  • Provide positive input in a team-oriented work environment
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Under the general direction of the Toolroom Supervisor the tool & die maker performs a variety of tasks, working from verbal/written instructions/drawings. The tool & die maker is exposed to elements such as noise/temperature. The incumbent generally provides their own hand tools as necessary to perform duties

Initial Qualifications for Hire:

  • Current Tool & Die Maker’s certificate of qualification a requirement
  • Proficient in blue print reading and GDT
  • At least 8 years of experience in building or maintaining metal stamping dies is an asset
  • Crane operation certification an asset
